Dragoon's UAS launches in Alaska

July 15, 2025. Dragoon is in the news at Defense News and the New York Times. Reporters from both were present at our recent testing in Alaska for the Defense Innovation Unit’s project Artemis, which is working to address the need to operate over long-ranges, in complex EW environments, and with massive amounts of low-cost UAS. The reporting outlines issues with America’s readiness to produce effective UAS in volume.

Dragoon is part of the solution. Eleven months before this test, our aircraft didn’t exist; its first flights were conducted last July under a DARPA funded effort to create low-cost, long-range UAS with speed and endurance unmatched by any aircraft in its class. Five months before the test, the aircraft had no capability to fly under GPS denial or communications jamming; after a thorough selection process, Dragoon was awarded a contract by DIU to integrate these capabilities. In a few months, Dragoon conducted a rapid integration, test, and iteration effort to pull together software and hardware from several US companies supplying to the defense sector. At the Alaska test, problems were had and overcome, and in our second attempt in realistic conditions we flew through jamming, found a target, and hit it. We’re proud of our rapid progress, but we know there’s much work ahead.

Throughout the UAS defense sector, companies large and small are responding to the call. DoD policy is reflecting the urgent threat, and our government partners at DIU and elsewhere are working with us to eliminate bottlenecks and focus on rapid development.
